I met Geoff Sobelle mid-performance of his tender yet fast-paced interactive show The Object Lesson at Perth Festival 2016. Later that year I found myself in Jersey City, USA, devising and performing in Sobelle’s next ambitious work.
"HOME is a large-scale performance work that explores and explodes the relationship between ‘house’ and ‘home’. A visual physical spectacle, HOME combines dance, illusion, live music, home-spun engineering and inventive use of audience interaction. The work asks, where is home? And, if it is not a place, what is home?"
Between 2016-2018 I toured with this production to multiple national and international venues and worked across many different roles. I was a devising artist, understudy, choreographic assistant, costume coordinator, back stage director and coach for local kid performer. I was Assistant Director for the Sydney Festival season at Roslyn Packer Theatre (in absence of Lee Sunday Evans and in partnership with Steve Cuiffo).
Working on HOME was a thrilling professional rollercoaster ride. It provided me with fast-paced learning in the nuances of interactive theatre, invigorating international relationships and significant creative inspiration. It was magnificent to contribute to the joy and generosity of this work.
My experience of HOME was supported in part by the WA Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (then Department of Culture and the Arts) through a 2016 Young People and the Arts Fellowship.
