"The Lighthouse beckons young people and their adults to venture into a ‘house of marvels’. Audiences of all ages journey through a series of interconnected rooms, each one full of hands-on experiences exploring a different property of light. Existing at the intersection of science and art, The Lighthouse is a conversation with the universe. Through its innovative use of light, sound, perspective and reflection, the performance places children and families at the centre of the experience, encouraging them to engage, experiment and spark their curiosity for the world."
I was delighted to play ‘The Storyteller’ in Perth Festival's 2022 season of this work, titled Patch’s Lighthouse. The show works like clockwork, with multiple audiences moving through the venue at the same time. This creates a durational challenge for performers - 3 shows every hour, 9 shows in every 3 hour session and 80 shows in a week. The role also required me to entice audiences through tunnels, guide multiple interactive moments and share philosophical musings on the universe (see poetry below).
