2022 CREALITY tour

About

The Contours project began on Malgana Country in Guthurraguda (Shark Bay) and traversed to Woodgamia (Gascoyne Junction) and Burringurrah. Led by elders we explored local stories, plants, animals and landscape. We connected deeply to each other, to our spirits, listened closely to Country and engaged with regional community while dancing.

Highlights of the tour include movement exploration on Shell Beach, long improvisations at Little Lagoon, traditional healing with Uncle Bobby and performing under the gaze of Burringurrah (which 1650 million years old, and the biggest single rock in the world). It was wonderful to have long conversations with Uncle Ray and share the stage with The Nomadics, Grace Barbé and Tanya Ransom among others.

The Contours project was just one part of a larger tour called CREALITY, previously known as Gascoyne in May. This is a vibrant annual arts event in and around Gwoonwardu (Carnarvon), with a rich history of regional impact through performance and workshops in music, circus and fire acts. My 2022 participation led to rewarding new artistic relationships, my first foray into spoken word poetry and transformative facilitated conversations about art as environmental and social action thanks to Brenna Quinlan.
