Sounding Together is an immersive residency project.
I participated in the second edition - a week of immersing in the stunning Meelup Regional park complete with walking, talking and eating together. There was a natural daily occurrence of play and conversation, with an implicit emphasis on encouraging and nurturing idiosyncratic approaches to marking art. We shared casual but constant solo, small group and large ensemble improvisations. There was no fixed schedule, no outcomes or expectations but an abundance of practice and learning. At the end of the week we shared a culminative ensemble performance back on Whadjuk boodja, at St Paul's church in Menora.
Meelup (Moonrise), Boranup (Sunrise) is a beautiful digital album recorded during the residency and released by Tone List.
Tone List is a Boorlo-based label for experimental music. They activate grassroots, exploratory practice with a spirit of community and collaboration. They extend support to local, national and international experimental artists and seed relationships across disciplines, age and career stage. My ongoing relationship with this inspiring group of community minded experimental sound folk significantly enriches my arts practice.
